Preparations: Pre-course information in English will be provided before the course starts, at least one month in advance. Participants will be provided by organizers with a preparatory kit whose content will be based on educational materials developed for cultural professionals and cultural managers as part of CONNECTION Grundtvig project. The participants will be invited to prepare a short presentation of their organization, a personal presentation about their experiences in the field of adult education and also about their training needs and motives to participate in the training course. The presentations will be object of discussion in the first day of the course. The participants will be asked in advance to choose a subject they would like to develop during the training session and to elaborate its content; during the training they’ll have the possibility to develop the subject into a training session and also present a part of it in front of the other participants. As far as possible, participants are expected to have a minimum understanding of the main issues addressed in the training programme, notably: principles of adult education and training in non-formal education contexts, what is organizational development, its role and impact as a managerial approach for organizations. The preparatory kit will contain information on this topics and also a series of instruments meant on one side to measure their knowledge level on these subjects and to stimulate them to research and inform themselves before attending the training course. Information collected by organizers will be used to create a training session adapted to the specificities of each group of participants.
Objectives: Educators working in cultural organisations consider that one of the main barriers preventing them to have a more pro-active attitude regarding adult education is the lack of skills in developing educational programmes dedicated to this specific group. A similar problem is manifested in the case of managers of non-formal educational institutions, cultural centres, museums and libraries, along with a gap of knowledge of modern approaches and soft skills in the managerial field. The course aims: -to introduce to participants modern management approaches designed to enhance the educational dimension of cultural organisations; -to discuss the purpose and applicability of certain managerial approaches for cultural organisations; -to present adult education methods based on social constructivism perspective; -to open a debate and a dialogue over the significance of social constructivist methods in adult education; -to discuss the purpose and applicability of certain training methods in the field of adult education; -to enable participants to act as trainers and multipliers, able to convey the information and skills acquired within this training course; -to stimulate and raise the interest of participants for the continuous development of educational dimension of cultural organisations.
Methodology: The course is prepared and run on the basis of a methodology that stresses active participation and commitment of all those involved. The interactions and short tasks given to participants before attending the training session will have the role to develop their interest and commitment. Emphasis will be placed on achieving a “methods mix” of lectures, intensive small group work, plus field-work excursions. During the course, participants will work individually and in groups, having as much as possible training activities based on the principle of learning by doing. They will discuss study cases developed based on real situations of cultural operators from several European countries; they will have to fulfil specific assignments of reflection, experience sharing and design of training activities. Study visits and meetings will help participants to get in touch with cultural professionals and managers from institutions in the city/region where the training is taking place. The last day will be organized to give an open floor to the participants to present and run training sessions they have learned so far in a safe environment and to get feedback on their approach.
Follow-up The course aims to train trainers, adult educators, cultural professionals and cultural managers who will act as multipliers and trainers in their respective countries and organizations. After the course, organisers will provide participants a summary of the training course content, activities and results. Communication of participants with trainers and organizers will continue via email and online forum. One of the forms of follow-up is going to be encouragement of collaboration between organizations that are willing to develop further projects. Participants will be encouraged to think realistic and feasible both for themselves and their organizations before, during and after the training
