Cultural Organisations As Communication and Learning Environments

CONNECTION project aims to promote learning as social constructivism and to improve the capacity of cultural institutions to be active players in adult education field, to forge new relations with and within the community and to contribute to the social cohesion and cultural dialogue.

Objectives:

  • To provide cultural institutions with concrete tools for their transformation into dynamic and flexible structures.
  • To contribute to the implementation of adult education methods and practices in cultural institutions.
  • To involve adult educators, cultural workers and cultural managers in the design, testing and development of project’s outputs, so as to make sure their needs are taken into consideration and addressed throughout the project.
  • To promote learning as social constructivism within cultural institutions.
  • To stimulate/raise the interest of cultural institutions to introduce and develop adult education methods as part of their activities.

Period of implementation: 1st of October 2007 – 30th of September 2009

Target groups and the needs addressed within the project:

  • Cultural managers need to receive up-to-date information on the new cultural and managerial concepts governing the cultural and educational sector, to gain management skills in the area of organizational development and in the introduction and development of adult education methods.
  • Cultural workers having educational and communication responsibilities needs to know adults educational needs and appropriate working methods, and to develop the skills necessary to use and adapt them.
  • Adult educators and cultural workers with the potential to act as multipliers of project’s results need to have both a solid knowledge and practice of educational methods and skills to transfer them to other trainees.

Main project’s outputs:

  • Research report on adult education in cultural institutions in Romania, Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania and Turkey;
  • A training curricula for adult education methods in cultural institutions;
  • A training curricula for organizational change and development in cultural institutions;
  • ‘Adult education in cultural institutions’ (educational material);
  • ‘Learning as core mission of cultural institutions’ (educational material);
  • 10 training sessions conducted at local and national level;
  • An international Grundtvig course – training of trainers.

Proiectul CONNECTION se incheie cu succes Proiectul CONNECTION – Organizaţiile culturale – medii de învăţare şi comunicare, finanţat cu sprijinul Comisiei Europene în cadrul programului de Învăţare pe tot parcursul vieţii – programul sectorial Grundtvig, se încheie în data de 30 septembrie 2009. Proiectul CONNECTION a urmărit să promoveze constructivismul social ca abordare a învăţării şi să contribuie la îmbunătăţirea capacităţii organizaţiilor culturale de a juca un rol activ în domeniul educaţiei adulţilor, de a crea noi relaţii în cadrul comunităţii şi de a contribui la coeziunea socială şi dialogul cultural. După doi ani de muncă intensă, organizaţiile partenere doresc să mulţumească tuturor persoanelor şi organizaţiilor care au contribuit la realizarea cu succes a acestui proiect şi deasemenea îşi exprimă încrederea că activităţile şi produsele dezvoltate şi obţinute pe parcurs vor continua să producă rezultate asupra practicilor profesionale din domeniul cultural şi educaţional. De-a lungul celor doi ani 426 de manageri şi profesionişti din organizaţii culturale din Bulgaria, Italia, Lituania, România şi Turcia au participat la activităţile de cercetare, 10 instituţii de cultură au fost implicate în procese de analiză organizaţională, 110 persoane au participat în seminarii locale ce au avut loc în ţările participante la proiect şi 21 de persoane din diverse ţări europene au luat parte în cursurile Grundtvig ce au avut loc în Izmir, Turcia şi Verona, Italia. Activităţile şi rezultatele proiectului au fost promovate şi difuzate la nivel european, către indivizi şi instituţii din peste 25 de ţări.Principalele rezultate ale proiectului CONNECTION sunt acum disponibile în limbile engleză, bulgară, italiană, lituaniană, română şi turcă: - un raport de cercetare asupra Educaţiei adulţilor în instituţii de cultură din Bulgaria, Lituania, Italia, România şi Turcia, ce include o serie de studii de caz bazate pe analize conduse în muzee, biblioteci, centre culturale şi ONG-uri; - o Curriculă de formare pentru profesioniştii din domeniul culturii interesaţi de dezvoltarea de activităţi educaţionale în organizaţiile culturale, împreună cu materialul complementar Metode de educaţie a adulţilor; - o Curriculă de formare pentru managerii culturali interesaţi de dezvoltarea capacităţii şi dimensiunii educaţionale în cadrul organizaţiilor pe care le conduc, însoţită de un Ghid de dezvoltare organizaţională, al cărui scop este de a-i ajuta în acest process. EU Grundtvig 3 course “CONNECTION: Adult Education in Cultural Organisations” We would like to invite you to participate in the Grundtvig in-service training course “CONNECTION: Adult Education in Cultural Organisations” which will be organized by the Centre for Professional Training in Culture (Romania) together with Menderes Town National Educational Department (Izmir, Turkey). The course aims to train trainers, adult educators, cultural professionals and cultural managers who will act as multipliers and trainers in their respective countries and organizations. Participants of this training course will work or intend to work with adults in cultural and educational organizations as libraries, museums, cultural centres, adult education providers, organizations working for community and training organizations. The course will provide participants with training skills for development and implementation of educational programmes aimed to adult people, will introduce them with modern management approaches designed to enhance the educational dimension of cultural organisations and will present them adult education methods based on social constructivism perspective. The course has been developed by the Centre for Professional Training in Culture (Romania) together with 4 partners from Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania and Turkey as a result of the international Grundtvig project "CONNECTION – Cultural Organisations as Communication and Learning Environments ". Project results published The first part of the research report “Adult education in cultural institutions in Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Romania and Turkey” is now available on CONNECTION project website, in the section Documents>Outputs (in English). First year of the project comprised a research on the educational activities and practices of cultural institutions – museums, libraries, cultural centres - and on the training needs of cultural professionals and managers. After a brief investigation of the cultural systems from the countries participating in the project, the research took the form of questionnaires-based surveys in a first phase, followed by a series of in-depth analyses carried within a limited number of cultural organisations. The results are gathered in one research report composed of 2 parts, first part already published on the project website, accessible to anyone interested, the second part to follow soon. CONNECTION project successfully finished The project CONNECTION - Cultural Organisations as Communication and Learning Environments, funded with the support of the European Commission in the frame of Lifelong Learning Programme – Grundtvig action and started on 1st of October 2007, will come to its end of 30 of September 2009. CONNECTION project aimed to promote learning as social constructivism and to improve the capacity of cultural institutions to be active players in adult education field, to forge new relations with and within the community and to contribute to the social cohesion and cultural dialogue.   After two years of intensive work, partner organisations would like to thank to all individuals and institutions that have helped and contributed to the successful realisation of this project and also to express their trust that the outputs developed in its framework will continue to produce results in the educational and cultural fields of practice. During the implementation period, 426 cultural managers and professionals from Bulgaria, Italy, Lithuania, Romania and Turkey took part in the first phase of the research and 10 cultural institutions were involved in processes of organizational analysis; 110 cultural and educational professionals and managers participated in local seminars organized in the countries participating in the project and 21 in the international Grundtvig training sessions organized in Izmir, Turkey and Verona, Italy.
